DECRG is the World Bank’s research department, and is the largest department within the Development Economics Vice Presidency, under the Chief Economist. DECRG’s research programs generate and disseminate the knowledge about development needed to achieve the World Bank’s ultimate objective of reducing poverty in a fiscally, environmentally and socially sustainable manner.

The Trade Team in the Development Research Group is responsible for Bank research on international trade and investment flows and policies, including analysis of trade policy reform at national, regional and multilateral levels. We seek an international trade economist with expertise in empirical methods interested in issues relevant for growth and poverty reduction in developing counties.

Duties and Accountabilities

Duties and Accountabilities of the appointee will be the following:

--  designing and managing research projects;
--  publication of findings in high-quality leading academic journals in the field;
--  translation of research finding into policy recommendations;
-- advising management and staff on strategy and interventions in the area of trade-related policies;
-- serving as a focal point and/or spokesperson on trade policy and regulatory disciplines to clients and other external constituencies and expert economic groups.

Selection Criteria

	
--  Advanced degree (preferably a Ph.D.) in Economics or a related field and at least 8 years of relevant experience;
--  A publication record in relevant professional journals is desirable;
--  Experience with, and good understanding of, empirical methods and their application to trade policy analysis;
--  Demonstrated research interest in the interactions between trade and development;
--  Familiarity with and interest in regional and multilateral trade negotiations and agreements;
--  Demonstrated ability to initiate and supervise complex research projects;
--  Excellent written and verbal communications skills; ability to communicate ideas effectively and to write quickly and clearly under pressure;
--  Demonstrated ability to manage and work within a team and inspire teamwork, while setting standards and exercising hands-on quality control; 
-- Ability to function effectively at the highest level in a multi-cultural environment, building and sustaining partnerships with clients and colleagues.
