Background / General description

The World Bank’s website informs the world of who we are and what we do, raises awareness of development issues, and shares development knowledge with our clients. In addition, the website builds the Bank’s global brand by ensuring transparency in its policy, programs and projects. 

Therefore, improving the quality and presentation of information on our website is critical to fulfill the Bank’s development and communications goals. The External Affairs Vice-Presidency Corporate Communications Group’s (EXTCC) Web Team is working diligently to expand the site’s reach and relevancy by providing essential Bank and development information in the institution’s international languages - Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Portuguese Russian, and Spanish.  

With some 131 million Internet users whose primary language is Spanish, the External Affairs Vice-Presidency Corporate Communications Group’s (EXTCC) Web Team has identified a need for a position to ensure that the Bank’s Spanish website is managed to reach this rapidly growing audience.  This position will report to the Web Team’s Multilingual Lead.

Note: If the selected candidate is a current Bank Group staff member with a Regular or Open-Ended appointment, s/he will retain his/her Regular or Open-Ended appointment. All others will be offered a 2 year renewable term appointment.

Duties and Accountabilities

Manage the Spanish corporate website of the World Bank, including identifying, developing and publishing relevant content for Spanish speaking audience

•	Work closely with the External Web teams to tailor homepage feature packages to meet the interests of Spanish speaking audiences.
•	Work with the Multilingual Team Lead to identify and implement ways to improve accessibility to Spanish content on the World Bank site.
•	Develop new content for Spanish speaking target audiences including original content such a features, slideshows and videos.
•	Coordinate the production of multimedia and interactive new products such a blogs and podcast.
•	Produce and promote weekly e-mail newsletter in Spanish. 
•	Ensure the quality of content and translations of corporate information, stories and press releases for the World Bank Spanish corporate site  http://www.bancomundial.org. Build relationship with GSDTI to implement new service model for Spanish web translations and localization. Write Spanish web editorial guidelines, and ensure their implementation in partnership with GSDTI. 
•	Update and revise existing content and graphics in a timely manner, ensuring the site’s overall accuracy, consistency and quality.


Serve as EXTCC’s primary point of contact with regional offices and Bank units regarding online Spanish language products

•	Provide guidance, training and assistance to other Bank units on developing online editorial, products, websites and communications in Spanish. 
•	Develop and document guidelines for writing, translating, publishing and maintaining the Bank’s Spanish language websites. This includes establishing editorial guidelines regarding substance, tone, style, voice and vocabulary, as well as best practices for "web" writing.
•	Partner with counterparts in the regions to identify regional priorities regarding the Bank’s online presence in Spanish and prepare strategies for highlighting and disseminating key information online.
•	Review Spanish language sites prepared by Bank units before they go live to ensure that they follow standards and guidelines relating to design, site organization, technical and legal policies, and editorial.


Manage Marketing Research and Outreach

•	Coordinate market analysis using web statistic analysis, Blog analysis, and focus groups to determine strategies on expanding the readership of the Spanish World Bank site. Effectively communicate findings to diverse audiences, with special attention to cultural sensitivities.
•	Collaborate with the Communication team in the LAC region to promote Spanish corporate material through the regional and country websites.
•	Plan and implement online marketing strategy and campaigns to increase readership and effectiveness of the World Bank’s Spanish websites.

Selection Criteria

•	Minimum Years of Relevant Experience: MA degree in Communications, International Relations/Affairs, Journalism, Marketing, Political Science or a related field and a minimum of 5 years relevant experience as an editor in Spanish with 2 of those years expertise in writing, editing, producing, maintaining, and managing content for websites in Spanish.; OR a BA degree in relevant field with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience. 
•	Strong understanding and experience with the web and web 2.0 technologies
•	Ability to problem solve, do relevant research and analysis, and coordinate and manage projects
•	Excellent oral and written communications skills in Spanish and English.
•	Good work ethic and self-starting attitude, and demonstrated ability to be part of a fast paced team.
•	Strong computer skills, e.g., HTML, Word, Lotus Notes, PowerPoint, Internet, Excel, Photoshop etc. Other multimedia and web skills desirable.
•	Experience or knowledge of web analytics and audience surveys.
